My name is Katie Harrison and this is my third full school year teaching in New Haven! I graduated from Central Michigan University with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education with an emphasis in special education and reading. I am currently working towards a master's degree in autism spectrum disorder through Saginaw Valley State University. I student taught in a middle school special education classroom for students with cognitive impairments in Saginaw Township Community Schools. I also student taught in a second grade general education classroom in L’Anse Creuse Public Schools. I completed a long-term substitute teaching position in the resource room at New Haven Elementary in the spring of 2013 to finish out the school year. In the summer, I work with students with brain injuries from car accidents and teach them life skills as well as job skills. As you can see, I have had a variety of teaching experiences with students of all ages and ability levels.
